A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

Liebe Mitglieder (Dear Members),

After approximately two months in office I would like to share my observations and opinions with you as seen through the eyes of an officer of the D.S.B.

I see our club as one with wonderful and friendly members who love to have fun as well as pursue their heritage, hobbies and friendships with people of similar backgrounds.

We have some members who actively voice their opinion and work hard for their special interest.  These are the leaders of our various subgroups.  There are other members who will participate and help when approached, but not volunteer or ask too many questions.  Then we have the silent majority who never express their opinion, ask questions or make suggestions.

In our newsletter I have expressed some of my opinions and suggestions to make this an even better club.  I had expected comments from members pro or con.  Up to this point I have received almost none.

The purpose of this message is to get all of our members involved.  Every suggestion is a good suggestion, even though not all of them can be incorporated.  However, suggestions are only half the solution.  The other half is to carry out what was suggested, by becoming actively involved, having others approve of your ideas and help bring them to fruition.

I have had a chance to closely evaluate our facilities.  They look great when you don’t look too closely.  At close examination you will find that in order to keep our facility in the first class condition most of us think it is in; we must volunteer to take care of the little things that are not perfect before they become major problems.

If you see something that needs fixing, painting, cleaning etc. volunteer to help.  I am sure you will be approached by the Property Committee in the coming month about things that require attention. Please volunteer-------as you know, THIS IS YOUR CLUB.  Let’s improve the D.S.B. surroundings as you would your own home.

Mit freundlichen Grüssen,

Richard Grieb

EVTG NEWS

Next meeting will be Thursday, April 5th at 8pm sharp!  Members please take note of change in meeting time!

EVTG JUGEND ATTEND MID-ATLANTIC EINZEL PLATTELN COMPETITION & WORKSHOP

Aaron Derby, Zachary Sigmund, Sara Keith and Morgan Schulz attended the 4th Annual Jugend Einzelplattl event at the Evergreen Country Club on Saturday, March 3, 2007 hosted by the Auerhahn Schuhplattler Verein, Oley, PA.

The competition had 8 Vereine and 44 couples from the Mid-Atlantic area participate in the excitement with ages ranging from 5 to 17 years of age.  This workshop gives our youth an opportunity to get together with other Schuhplattlers their age and a way to show off their great talents.

This is the first time the Jugend were given the option of their performance being ranked or critiqued.  Enzian V.T.G.’s Sara Keith won Second Place in the 10 to 13 age group and we are equally proud of all our youth that took their time to participate in this fun event.

Please remember, our young people are the future of the Delaware Saengerbund, helping to preserve and uphold our culture and traditions.  Thanks for a great job to Sara, Morgan, Aaron and Zachary.
