PROPERTY COMMITTEE

A Request for Proposal for engineering to set elevations, grading, drainage and seeding for the Athletic Field at the south end of the DSB property is underway.

ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE

The Entertainment Committee thanks everyone who attended Stiftungsfest. We hope everyone had a great time. Thank you for your support. We also want to thank all the participants of the Children’s Easter Party. A special thank you all the committee members, volunteers, and kitchen helpers for a wonderful afternoon

Ø Spring Concert – Saturday, May 5^th

Doors will open at 6:00 and the singers will perform at 7:00. Food will be available for purchase by the Ladies of the DSB. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, April 9^th at the General Membership Meeting, than every Wednesday from 7:45 to 9:00 until the Concert. Tickets will also be sold at the door. The Windjammers will play from 8:00 to 12:00. Tickets will be $7 each for everyone.

Ø DSB Annual Picnic June 9^th

Join your fellow members and family for an afternoon of fun and entertainment. Dance to the music provided by JT Orchestra from 1pm to 5pm.There will be a few surprises. Don’t miss out on the good time. Rain or Shine!!!

DELAWARE SAENGERBUND

SINGERS’ SPRING CONCERT

SATURDAY, MAY 5^th, 2007, 7:00 pm

The Singers will be performing their annual spring concert of familiar German and american songs

they will be joined by

the cecil county choral society

food will be available for purchase before and after the concert. there will be music for your dancing and listening enjoyment by the "windjammers"

Doors will open at 6:00 PM.

Come out and support the Singers and the DSB.

Tickets will be $7.00 per person . They will be available starting at the april 9th meeting and at the club on Wednesday evenings. phone and email reservations are welcome. Call the DSB for further information.

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

Liebe Mitglieder (Dear Members):

We are extremely lucky to belong to a club that has members with so many different interests and talents.

Our club consists of Singers, Dancers, Soccer Players, Teen Group, Ladies Group who cook and serve, committees that take care of the property, Culture Committee, Oktoberfest Committee, Genealogy Group and many more.

All of these diverse groups are wonderful to embrace however, they all must homogenize and pull together to become one, The Delaware Saengerbund.

Whenever a course of action is taken by any one of these groups or individuals, the first thought should always be, “Is this best for the Delaware Saengerbund”?

All groups must compliment each other, they must be courteous toward each other and most of all, help each other. No group should think of itself as being more important with more “rights” than any other, nor should they belittle any other group or individual.

Let us work toward a “United Delaware Saengerbund” where each and every member is an equal and valuable asset to the D.S.B.

Let us go forward under the motto:

Wenn jeder vor seiner Türe fegt, ist die ganze Stadt sauber.

When everyone sweeps in front of his own door, the whole town will be clean.

GERMAN GENEALOGY GROUP

There will be a presentation of dux to DSB part 2, by Helga Kissell, on Friday April 27^th at 7:30 pm in the Von Steuben room. All Genealogy Group, Culture Committee, DSB German Classes, Members and Guests are welcome.

On April 30, our DSB genealogy meeting will have a world renowned author and publisher, Corrine Earnest, speak on Pennsylvania Germans and Frakturs. She and her husband own and operate the Russell D. Earnest Associates Publishing Company. Please put April 30 on your calendars and help us welcome Corrine to the Delaware Saengerbund. The meeting will be at 7:30 pm in the board Room. We hope there will be so many attending we will need to move to the Deutsche Halle.

Fraktur is a kind of blackletter typeface as well as a kind of Pennsylvania German Folk Art.

The final meeting of the Genealogy Group will be on Monday, May 21^st in the Board Room at 7:30 PM. Ellis Schmidt will share with us his research on German Immigration into the Mississippi Valley.

Please join us for dinner Saturday, May 12, 2007, 4:00-6:00pm. Spend a Saturday afternoon at the Delaware Sängerbund for some Gemütlichkeit and a PIG ROAST, sponsored by the Enzian Volkstanzgruppe. Dinner will be served in the D.S.B. Pavilion. Come early, stay late! Casual dress.

We are planning something new this year! Anyone that purchases tickets for dinner is invited to sit around the Pig Roast Bonfire, enjoy talking with old friends and meet new people. For the kids, make S’mores, we provide the fixens’ and don’t forget the soccer ball or volley ball for a pick-up game with your friends or siblings. Please send your reservation form in early, the pig must be ordered well in advance of our scheduled date.

CULTURE COMMITTEE NEWS

· KONVERSATIONSRUNDE

There is interest in a conversation circle for members wishing to speak more and only German. Lorena Meunier serves as liaison under the Culture Committee. The dates for the next meetings for interested members are Tuesday, April 17 and May 15 at 7:30pm in the library. We plan to continue this activity on the same schedule as the language classes from October to May. This is another great opportunity to keep your oral skills alive, to interact on a variety of topics, and to meet new club members. · DEUTSCH FÜR KINDER CAMP

Deutsch für Kinder Camp will be held July 16-27, 2007. The age range is from 6-10 years and is open to members’ children and grandchildren. The two week camp will be held from 9:00am – 12:00 noon on Monday – Friday for a total cost of $20.00 per child. Dr. Iris Busch and daughter Stefanie will again offer an interesting and fun program so that your child will be singing and speaking German at the end of camp. TAG GROUP

The Tag group is seeking members (Teenager) age 12-18 to keep the group growing. This group of Young people will assist at club events such as Coatroom, Picnic, Oktoberfest and many other activities. Please bring your teenagers to the club and join the group. For questions, call 302-738-0702.

FROM THE LADIES OF THE DSB

The Ladies are in the planning stages of their annual outing. Details as far as location and times have yet to be finalized. The trip will take place sometime during the week of May 14^th. Information regarding the trip and availability of seats will be announced as it becomes available. If you have any questions or may be interested in joining the Ladies on their outing please contact Bettie Hopkins at 563-5885 or via email bett381@hotmail.com.

The Ladies would also like to remind everyone that we shall continue our policy of opening the window for food sales as the doors open for DSB events. So bring your appetites!

The next meetings of the Ladies will be held Monday, April 30th, 2007 and Monday, May 28th, 2007 at 7:30 pm in the Von Steuben room.

The Ladies always welcome any new members! Feel free to join us for an upcoming meeting.

Are you looking for a special treat for mother on her day? The Culture Committee invites you to bring her to a lovely German style afternoon where you can linger over coffee/tea and cake as you relax and chat with family and friends. Chocolate milk will be available for children.

DEUTSCHE SPRACHSCHULE

As per his list of goals for the coming year President Richard Grieb has asked the Culture Committee to organize a DEUTSCHE SPRACHSCHULE for club members’ children and grandchildren to learn the German language and culture. This is a major project which will involve establishing goals, setting a curriculum, and hiring teachers, and could include children from ages 4 through high school. Classes will be set depending on age and number of students. In order to determine the interest and participation among the members for such a language school, the committee wishes to gather the following information first:
