PROPERTY COMMITTEE

To our members who cleaned up the DSB property on April 14th, we collected 6 trailer loads of brush and about a dozen bags of trash.  Your Christmas tree was planted while the lawn mowers went to work to make our club lawns clean and neat.  Special thanks to Phil Rice and Harry Seibert for excavating the trench and installing the new conduit and electric power cable to the main gate.

ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE

Thank you to all who attended the Wilden Kaiser Show and Dinner.  This event sold out!!  Special thanks to the Entertainment committee members for all their help in the planning and to our kitchen and food line helpers.  A very special thank you to Klaus Vikari for preparation of the Sauerbraten.

Bookings for 2008 are underway.  We will make every attempt to bring in new entertainment as well as bringing back our regulars.  Please remember that tickets are required for entry into the Deutsche Halle.  Do not enter the dance, or back bar area without a ticket.  You will be asked to leave.

Our annual picnic will be held from 12:00 to 4:30 on Saturday June 9th.  The JT Orchestra will play from 12:00 to 4:00.  Food will be available for purchase by the Ladies of the DSB.  Please contact Brian Schulz if you can help with set-up and/or clean-up, or help with any activity.  Call or email me at 302-453-8557 or Brianofdsb@aol.com.

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

Liebe Mitglieder (Dear Members):

I would like to thank all of you for the support and encouragement you have given me and the Board of Directors since I took office.  We are starting to see more and more, what cooperation among all of us can accomplish for the Delaware Sängerbund, our club.  You can see it in the increase of participation in the events as well as the participation in scheduled clean-up days.

However, we are a long way from being perfect, the goal toward which we all should be striving.  I am challenging each and every one of you to take a good look at our property and facilities.  You will see many items that need attention.  Choose one of the items you would like to see improved, call up a friend who would be willing to help you, pick a day and work on your project of interest.  Just think how beautiful our club would be if everyone helped out, there is something for all ages and capabilities.  Furthermore just think how much satisfaction you would get out of knowing a particular project was finished because you cared.

In the past couple of weeks I have taken a closer look at our facilities, if you can’t see an item that needs attention, please see me and I will give you some choices.  Arrangements will be made to obtain all supplies needed, as well as opening up the club house to enable you to work on your project.

Within the next month I will write a list of projects and publish it in the D.S.B. Newsletter as well as post these much needed projects on the bulletin board for you to offer your help.

Remember, the D.S.B. is run entirely by volunteers, this is the only way we can keep our club a viable organization for many years to come.

Mit freundlichen Grüssen,

Richard Grieb

GARDEN COMMITTEE

The Garden committee will meet Saturday morning, June 2nd from 8 AM to Noon.  The gardens need your hands to keep them an inviting entrance to our club.

Please sign up to water the garden one week this summer.  If many take one turn, the gardens can survive the heat, without being a burden to an individual.  A calendar is on a board of the Bauernsteube Entrance.  A week runs from Sunday to Saturday.

GERMAN GENEALOGY GROUP

The final meeting of the Genealogy Group before our summer break will be on Monday, May 21st in the Board Room at 7:30 PM.   Ellis Schmidt will share with us his research on German Immigration into the Mississippi Valley.  Also, all members of the group are invited to share a map, photo, or story from their research experience.

Deutschklasse singt zum dritten Mal - "Aller guten Dinge sind drei!"

Yes, for the third year in a row our elementary German class was allowed to sing a little again, at the Ladies' Pork and Sauerkraut Dinner on April 29, 2007, after a delicious meal. We sang 'Lily Marleen', accompanied on the piano by Sonja Ciresa -'Vielen Dank, Sonja' and all the singers deserve 'herzlichen Dank' as well, for singing so well that we received many compliments. We enjoyed singing a song which many members are familiar with, since Marlene Dietrich made it famous. In the future there will be some photos.

Herzlichst, Helga Kissell, die Lehrerin.
