PROPERTY COMMITTEE
A contract was placed with the engineering firm McBride & Ziegler, Inc. to begin engineering work and secure permits to improve the grading, stabilize the soil and modify drainage of the 2 acre field on the south end of the DSB property. M&Z will meet with the Property Committee on December 3rd to discuss engineering concepts to improve this land parcel which will serve both DSB Soccer and Oktoberfest parking needs.
GERMAN GENEALOGY GROUP
The Genealogy Group will not meet in December. The next meeting will be on Monday, Jan 28th at 7:30 in the Deutsche Halle. As one way of studying the social history of our ancestors we will have the privilege of hearing about daily life in Europe from two of our club leaders who grew to adulthood in Europe before immigrating to America. All members are invited to attend this meeting. The program will be repeated the last Monday of February with two more speakers. They will be announced at the December meeting and the Jan newsletter.
Liebe Mitglieder (Dear Members):
Once again we are coming close to the end of another exciting year in the Delaware Saengerbund.
We have a lot to be thankful for: all of our committees and subgroups have reported satisfactory progress, fun in their endeavors and wonderful support from our membership. Our monthly meetings have been well attended – indicating the high interest by all members in what is going on. Our Membership Secretary, Hans Nafzinger is still accepting new members in by the dozens and many more people are inquiring of how to join.
The Ladies have once again done an outstanding job supporting the D.S.B.
The House Committee continues to surprise us with new drinks, new entertainment and good food. This will certainly draw new faces into the Bauernstube.
The Entertainment Committee has been very active and has added, as well as expanded many activities throughout the year.
The Property Committee did a great job in maintaining our beautiful property and preserving it for the future.
We can’t say enough about the Oktoberfest Committee and all the help they received from members and non-members alike – great job.
The Culture Committee is doing a wonderful job in preserving our heritage. Isn’t it gratifying to see 47 of our children coming to the Delaware Saengerbund Schule every Sunday afternoon to learn the German Language and culture while having fun and enjoying each other?
We also have the Singers and Dancers disseminating our culture into the community throughout the year.
I can’t forget the effort of your Board of Directors who spent many hours planning and working for the Delaware Saengerbund.
I’m sure I probably forgot many of you who have contributed to our success – please consider yourself included.
Thank you for being part of us and thank you for your ongoing support. Have a joyous Holiday Season and continue your involvement in the Delaware Saengerbund for many years to come.
Thank you,
Richard Grieb

· ROMANTISCHE MUSIK - ROMANTIC HARP MUSIC IN THE GERMAN TRADITION
Celebrate Anne Sullivan Schock’s debut solo CD at a release concert and party on Friday, December 14 at 7:30pm at the Delaware Saengerbund. The music chosen for this recording was inspired by a trip to Germany with her family and an afternoon of browsing through a Munich music store. Anne’s discoveries and her delight in the country and its culture led to this collection of beautiful and enchanting melodies. Anne will perform the music from the CD live for an audience that appreciates romantic harp music.
The concert is sponsored by the DSB Culture Committee and is open to the general public. Coffee and light refreshments will be served during intermission. Tickets are $5.00 at the door; CDs will be available for purchase at the concert.
· GERMANY – A CULTURAL ADVENTURE (13 – 27 May 2008)
Price: $3,485 (includes group air and land tour)
Single Supplement - $600
November 15, 2007 - $450 – deposit
January 31, 2008 - $1,000
March 12, 2008 – final payment
Join Saengerbund members who have traveled together in the past and who are anxious to undertake another exciting adventure in touring German highlights. The Culture Committee presents this wonderful itinerary.
Discover Germany’s little known gems, taste the culinary delights and enjoy highlights of German culture and traditions. An exciting two week tour includes Bremen and Bremerhaven, with a visit to the Emigration Museum, a must for the genealogical buff doing family research. A three night stay in Berlin affords personal time to tour the many outstanding museums or a side visit to Potsdam. After a stop in Leipzig which offers a visit to the Thomaskirche where J.S. Bach worked and Luther preached, the tour continues on to two nights in Dresden. This city on the Elbe River showcases the Zwinger Palace; Green Vault, August the Strong’s famous treasury; Semper Opera and the rebuilt Frauenkirche. We continue the drive to Freiberg on the Silver Street and Seiffen, the Christmas craft capital, where we can do our shopping for the holiday. After a two night stay there the tour spends a night in Coburg, noted for the Veste, the fortress where Luther hid during the Augsburg Confession. The final three nights will be at the Platzl hotel in Munich. This city known as the ‘secret capital’ offers many gems for the visitor to discover and enjoy.
Members and friends interested in obtaining a flyer and/or signing up for this tour may contact My World Travel and tour director, John Maiorano (610-358-3744, 302-655-4770, 1-800-822-0922) or Trudy Gilgenast (302-995-1726, TrudyG@udel.edu)

The DSB awards two stipends valued at $2,000 each to members’ children or grandchildren to attend the Concordia German Language Camp in Minnesota next summer. Although this is a total immersion environment (everything in German!), no prior German study is needed. Complete applications and letters are due by November 29, 2007 to the Culture Committee of the DSB.
